The Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced a plan to put the lesser prairie chicken on a list of threatened species. Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback and other state officials criticized the decision, which could adversely affect agriculture, oil and gas drilling, and wind farms. (Yes, wind farms. Al Gore must be pretty conflicted.)

One that we all encounter each and every day…

One that, should it be driven to extinction, would be disastrous for America and the world…

Every day its natural habitat is being destroyed…
— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) April 16, 2014
And the largest cause of its endangerment is the federal government…

I'm talking, of course, about the American small business…
— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) April 16, 2014
The backbone of the American economy, and thus, the world economy…
— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) April 16, 2014
Obamacare, overbearing regulations, and excessive taxes are driving small businesses to extinction…

But we don't have to let it happen…

So rather than placing the lesser prairie chicken on the endangered species list…

Perhaps the federal government ought to stop driving small business, the engine that drives the American economy, toward extinction.
