At this point, it should really go without saying that Oregon is a hot mess. And, sadly, when you hear "Portland," the first words that come to mind probably don't have positive connotations.
So as much as this story sucks, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to, well, anyone.
And I do mean anyone.
Portland Democrats released a serial killer from prison because they worried he might get Covid. https://t.co/NhMMHjEEPE

A career criminal being eyed in the grisly murders of four Oregon women in 2022 had his sentence cut short and was released a year earlier due to concerns over COVID-19 spreading behind bars.
Jesse Lee Calhoun, 38, was among about 1,000 inmates granted clemency by Democratic former Oregon Gov. Kate Brown as fears over the spread of the pandemic swept through the nation, the Willamette Week reported.
Calhoun had been sent to prison in 2019 on a series of felony convictions, including burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, injuring a cop and choking a police canine and was due to be jailed until June 2022.
...
This week Calhoun was identified as a person of interest in the deaths of four women — Ashley Real, 22, Bridget Webster, Kristin Smith, 22, and Charity Lynn Perry, 24 — [in the Portland metro area] according to Willamette Week’s sources.
...
Calhoun is back behind bars on unrelated matters and being held at the Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario after current new Governor Tina Kotek revoked his early release and had him locked up.
Calhoun has a long string of busts dating to 2004, and previous prison time on an assault conviction in 2009.
Now, Calhoun being "a person of interest" does not necessarily mean that he actually killed these women, but at the very least, given his extensive criminal history, he probably shouldn't have been out walking around just yet. Injuring a cop seems like a particularly bright red flag, as does choking a dog (we all know what animal abuse says about a person and that it's often retroactively seen as an early warning sign of future serial killer behavior).

And Portland and Oregon's governments' general attitude toward crime means that citizens' safety and lives are inherently at risk. So women being murdered after violent criminals get released early from prison is kind of the logical — albeit gruesome — outcome.
Well at least he didn’t catch a cold.

Maybe he still did!
Did he get COVID though? https://t.co/OXiUmRUbpK

In any event, I'm sure that wherever Kate Brown is right now, she's very relieved to know that he survived.
Virginia Democrats did this too with both killers and rapists
— The Virginia Project (@ProjectVirginia) July 19, 2023
one released rapist went on to kill his accuser
And there are unfortunately many more stories like these out there as a result of Democrats choosing to be soft on crime over protecting their constituents.
Wow I didn't even bat an eye as this passed by. Getting to be typical.

Sigh.
Certainly getting to be typical of Democratic-controlled cities like Portland.
So it all went exactly according to plan? https://t.co/UUtu0uxyxn

The democrats support this. Criminals over victims. Typical https://t.co/oLAc2othVu

Without significant shifts away from Democratic control, expect this disturbing reality to persist.
The greatest threat a nation faces is from its own politicians and government officials.
