NBC's Ben Collins keeps finding videos of cats in blenders on Twitter and it's all Elon Musk's fault

Is there a more insufferably self-righteous and delusional journalist out there right now than NBC News’ “dystopia beat” senior reporter Ben Collins? If there is, we’d like to meet them and congratulate them for pulling off such an impressive feat. It’s possible, of course, that insanely stiff competition prevents Collins from rising to the top of the trash heap, but at the very least, he’s gotta be tied with someone in the top three or something.

Anyway, to say the very least, he’s self-righteous and delusional, not to mention obnoxious and annoying and all-around full of it. He demonstrated that once again on Chris Hayes’ MSNBC show last night, when he complained about how Twitter under Elon Musk is basically a free speech free-for-all where snuff films lurk around every corner. We’re talking videos of cats being blended to death, people:

Are we sure it’s not Ben who’s lost it? Or that he never actually had it to begin with?

Why … why is Ben on 4chan and 8chan every day? Does anyone else think that’s kinda weird?

Can Ben explain why he is apparently more likely than most people on Twitter to come across videos of cats being ground up in blenders?

In the interest of science, we attempted to replicate Ben’s experience, and we were unable to do so. Sounds like that was the case for others who tried to understand what the hell Ben was on about:

But Ben says he’s not lying. How do we explain what’s happening, then?

From Collins’ May 12 article:

Autocomplete suggestions in search bars are a common feature on many social media platforms, and they can often surface disturbing content. The terms for “dog” and “cat” autocompleted viral animal cruelty videos in Twitter’s search box Thursday, when NBC News contacted the company for comment. Twitter’s press account automatically responded with a poop emoji, the company’s standard response for the last month.

As of Friday afternoon, Twitter appeared to have turned off its autocomplete suggestions in its search bar.
