Look: I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that I’m OK with the idea of a sitting U.S. Senator who’s 89 years old, because I’m not. Yes, there are 89-year-old men and women out there who are perfectly lucid and even in pretty good physical shape, but I feel like when it comes to the government, it’s probably wise to err on the side of caution and just not elect people who are over a certain age. Maybe that sounds ageist or whatever, but Joe Biden’s 80, and look how well that’s working out for us.
Anyway, back to 89-year-old senators. I’m referring specifically to Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein. GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley is 89, too, but at least we know where he is. The same can’t be said for Feinstein’s, who’s all but disappeared from public view. It’s understandable that her absence would annoy Democratic voters, particularly since if she’s not at work, she’s not helping to advance Democrats’ agenda or put a stop to Republicans’. I can sympathize with liberals’ frustration (while also enjoying it, mind you). And obviously I’m not a fan of Feinstein’s politics.
But even a hater like me can’t get behind what The Intercept’s Ken Klippenstein is doing to Team Feinstein right now. It’s no secret that Ken’s a massive jerkwad, but this is pretty gross even for him:
Alright it's time to name and shame Dianne Feinstein's staff, all of whom should be blacklisted from politics forever for caring so little about their country that they refuse to resign (THREAD):
Adam Russell – press secretary (@JAdamRuss), paid $102,046— Ken Klippenstein (@kenklippenstein) May 10, 2023
There’s a lot more where that came from. Or at least there was. Looks like he’s deleted his thread, which was quite lengthy. Not out of any sense of shame, of course. He just got tired of people calling him out for being an ass.

My mentions are a torrent of full suit avis screaming at me about how 20-something Princeton grads are downtrodden workers who are just following orders

It’s a genuine problem that Feinstein is still in the U.S. Senate despite suffering from obvious physical and cognitive impairments, but Klippenstein’s strategy of shaming her via shaming her staffers is really, really gross.
Get their asses, king. Send them to make solar panels the rest of their lives!
— Greg Price (@greg_price11) May 10, 2023
This feels like harassment. Also, why do you assume her staff is calling the shots? Feinstein is the one who has to decide whether to resign.

Narrator: It felt like harassment because it was harassment.
This is very inappropriate and you should find yourself another profession.

This thread is appalling.

What a sad little life you live

No wonder Ken’s always trying to make other people feel bad. Misery loves company.
This is out of line. Attacking a staff for standing by the Senator, who is ailing, is beneath you. You owe them apologies.
— Dennis Coy 🛡 (@denniscoy) May 10, 2023
No, it isn’t beneath him at all. And he will never apologize because that requires a level of shame.

Fair point.
This ain’t it.

How ‘bout we do not do this? pic.twitter.com/7R6gyTPinu
— Mary Katharine Ham (@mkhammer) May 11, 2023
We’re not gonna do it. But Ken did. And at some point, he’s going to regret it, either because he suddenly grows a conscience or because he gets a taste of his own medicine.
I have seen a lot of shitty things done on Twitter, but this probably is the worst.
Ken got the attention he wanted. I hope he understands that when you threaten someone's job, they may respond in unpredictable ways.
And I kind of hope he learns it the hard way. https://t.co/abslU7eawL
