Pink Floyd made some pretty great music back in the day. And it holds up pretty darn well for the most part all these years later.
But if you’re a fan of the band who is not a fan of antisemitism, you might find it difficult sometimes to enjoy the music thanks to the antics of outspoken Israel- and Jew-hater Roger Waters. Over the past few decades, Waters has become an increasingly unhinged antisemite (and given how unhinged many antisemites are, that’s really saying something). But Pink Floyd still has at least one saving grace, and that’s Waters’ former bandmate David Gilmour (whose vocals were lovely, it’s worth noting).
Gilmour has watched Waters’ descent into antisemitic and general madness with frustration and utter disgust, and yesterday on Twitter, he made it abundantly clear that his feelings are only growing exponentially every time Waters opens his mouth.
It started with this tweet from author and lyricist Polly Samson, who also happens to be Gilmour’s wife:
Sadly @rogerwaters you are antisemitic to your rotten core. Also a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching,misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense.

Harsh, but fair. And Gilmour wholeheartedly agrees with Samson:
Every word demonstrably true https://t.co/KWk4I3bMTN

This “lip-synching” thing is pretty intriguing and we’d like to know more about it, but yeah, “demonstrably true” seems pretty accurate especially with regard to the antisemitic Putin apologist stuff.
David Gilmour has entered the chat

We’re glad he’s here. His voice is welcome and needed, especially to help drown out Roger Waters’ awfulness.
Well done for calling him out.

Thank you.

Thank you @davidgilmour and @PollySamson

The far more talented member of Pink Floyd also has the far better opinions.
— Noam Blum (@neontaster) February 7, 2023
Demonstrably true.
For what it’s worth, though, Waters has responded to Samson’s “incendiary and wildly inaccurate comments” and it sounds like he’s exploring legal reprisal:

OK, buddy. Go right ahead.
Tell me you love pro- Putin, pro- Assad regime genocide deniers who are deeply antisemitic without telling me! Roger Waters can consult with as many lawyers as he wants but he’ll get LAUGHED out of any courtroom! he’s an unhinged dictator loving antisemite https://t.co/aq25XKQKfk

Here’s the deeply pro- Russian regime & antisemitic interview that Roger Waters did with a German Newspaper.. Russia IS mass murdering Ukrainian civilians and like MANY Jews my grandma’s family was from Jerusalem and had never stepped foot in Europe https://t.co/mGT6InfxAg pic.twitter.com/3E0xjKX06o

Needless to say:
Wow. I guess that means the Pink Floyd reunion is off then
— Alan Weston (@alanweston) February 6, 2023
So no Pink Floyd reunion anytime soon.

We wouldn’t hold our breath, no.
