Earlier, we told you about Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov rustling libs’ and journalists’ feathers last night by … declining to wear a warmup jersey celebrating LGBTQ+ pride. He did not get to participate in the pregame skate because of his decision. But for some people, that wasn’t punishment enough. We told you about some of the fine folks who think that the Flyers should’ve benched Provorov for the entire game.
That’s incredibly stupid, of course. But then, sports can make people say and do some incredibly stupid stuff. That’s certainly the case for ESPN senior NHL writer Greg Wyshynski, who offered up this take on the whole situation:
Of course, Ivan Provorov is more than happy to play pregame dress-up when it does align with his belief system. pic.twitter.com/rOG0uoCsf4

You know he thought he had Wyshynski dead to rights on being a hypocrite and a liar. Too bad Greg only busted himself — as really, really bad at gotchas.

To The List with you, Greg. You can skate there if you want.
Wait, so Greg, what are you suggesting here?
Support of the US military is a bad thing?
All military supporters are homophobic?
I’m happy to let you explain further, b/c I would hope that my initial reaction is wrong and that this isn’t you sending out a bat signal of sorts.— Anthony SanFilippo (@AntSanPhilly) January 18, 2023
That he gladly wore a pregame sweater that benefitted Flyers charities in the past when it aligned with his belief system, which is exactly what I wrote.
But I appreciate you attaching a bunch of your own nonsense to my tweet because I simply haven't received enough hate mail.

OK, but we’re still not seeing any evidence of Provorov’s alleged intellectual consistency.
I mean, yeah. He said he didn't want to wear that jersey because it clashed with his belief system, so it isn't weird at all that he'd wear something that didn't do that. https://t.co/FY9i9bGo1k

What Noam said.
My gawd, the horror that someone would *checks notes* support things that align with their belief system
— Tripp (@cbomar_3) January 18, 2023
How dare he do things he wants to do and not things he doesn’t want to do
— Billy Gribbin (@BillyGribbin) January 18, 2023
Yes. That’s how it works in an actually free country.

Better luck next time, Greg.
