How nice would it be to be past the 2022 midterm elections and not have to immediately start gearing up for 2024? It’d be really nice. Unfortunately, it’s also really, really unrealistic.
That’s why we end up with Donald Trump wasting next to no time announcing his candidacy for the 2024 presidential race. And now, not even a full week into 2023, we may be on the verge of a second GOP presidential candidate.
Trump was kind of an expected entrant, but this other guy … not sure anyone saw this one coming:

Speaking to Good Morning Britain today, Bolton said: “I think Trump’s support within the party itself is in terminal decline.
“I wouldn’t run as a vanity candidate. If I didn’t think I could run seriously then I wouldn’t get in the race.”

I’ve gotta admit, I’d honestly forgotten about him. That’s not meant to be disrespectful, by the way. It just feels like the era of Bolton was ages ago. Guess that’s just how insane the last couple of years have been.
Anyway, to be fair, I feel like the Daily Mail’s tweet and article make it sound like Bolton has said that he’s definitely running for president in 2024, but at least as far as the clip in question goes, I didn’t hear any explicit declaration of intent to run. Not that that really matters at this point. It’s not even clear that Trump wants to run (an increasing number of people seem to think that his heart and mind just aren’t in it this time around, as evidenced by stuff like that weird NFT thing).
But if John Bolton did decide to throw his hat into the ring, what would y’all think about that? Based on the responses to the Daily Mail’s tweet, it would appear that the general consensus ranges from eye rolling to laughter.

I honestly can’t say I have an opinion at all. I’m still recovering from the most recent election cycle and the ones before that. I’m tired, yo.
But I’ll concede that a former member of the Trump administration debating Donald Trump would probably make for interesting TV, at least.
