Glenn Kessler waited til right before the midterms to acknowledge that Biden's told some real whoppers

When it comes to fact-checking President Joe Biden, the Washington Post Fact Checker has been … well, let’s just say it’s been inconsistent. There have been a handful of times when Glenn Kessler et al. have done their jobs, but most of the time, they slacked off and let Biden off the hook for the most brazen and egregious of lies. Did they suddenly realize that people might’ve been paying attention all this time? Is that why Kessler is doing this today?

Kessler awarded Biden a “Bottomless Pinocchio” for Biden’s lie about traveling 17,000 miles with Chinese President Xi Jinping:

This is an old claim we had debunked shortly after Biden took office, giving him Three Pinocchios. There is no evidence Biden traveled that much with Xi, the president of China — and even if we added up the miles Biden flew to see Xi, it still did not total 17,000 miles. The White House could not offer an explanation for that number either.
But it’s noteworthy because, despite our fact check and a White House admission that Biden’s line of “traveling with” Xi was not accurate, with this comment, Biden had made the claim 20 times during his presidency. (He then said it a 21st time a few hours later, in another speech, with a slight twist: “… when I traveled 17-, 18,000 miles with him.”) Biden is so fond of this bogus statistic that he even mentioned it during high-profile speeches such as a joint session of Congress and a commencement address.

There are several other Biden lies featured in Kessler’s article (of course, Kessler can’t quite bring himself to award Bottomless Pinocchios to those, but whatever).

It should have been written weekly, all year, for the past almost-two years … but it wasn’t.

Better late than never?

Oh, yeah. We should probably mention that CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale did something very similar:

November 5. The midterm election are tomorrow, November 8.

Fascinating!

Oh, for sure. That’s exactly what they’ll do. And we won’t buy it.

Props to them for trying, but they’ve made way too many mistakes for us to trust them.
