At some point, Merriam-Webster amended their definition of 'female' to keep up with our modern times

According to Merriam-Webster.com, “for more than 180 years, Merriam-Webster has been America’s leading provider of language information.” That’s quite a distinction. Millions and millions of people have turned to them over the years for the final say in word definitions.

But apparently Merriam-Webster has been trying to find another means of distinguishing themselves. It’s 2022, after all. They’ve been around for nearly two centuries.

Well, after long and careful consideration, it looks like this is what they’ve come up with:

“Having a gender identity that is the opposite of male.” In other words, if you’re a man who decides that he’s now a woman, you’re female. At least according to the folks at Merriam-Webster.

If you visit Merriam-Webster’s homepage right now, “female” is listed near the top of the list of “Top Lookups.” We, like so many others, were intrigued by Matt Walsh’s initial tweet and decided to see Merriam-Webster’s definition for ourselves, and, sure enough, we saw what Walsh saw.

It is ridiculous nonsense. And you don’t even have to think about it too hard before you’re able to see the flaws in Merriam-Webster’s definition.

What should really have you scratching your head is that if you scroll down a lot further on the page, you’ll come to the “medical definition”:

According to that definition, an individual that can — barring biological or medical issues — get pregnant is female, and distinct from an individual that produces sperm, who is male. And women and girls are distinct from men or boys. Not sure why that’s considered a “medical definition” as opposed to just “the definition,” but at least Merriam-Webster still has it right somewhere on their page, albeit near the bottom where most people likely wouldn’t notice it.

If Merriam-Webster wants to tweak the definitions of certain words in order to keep up with the woke, that’s certainly their prerogative. But if that’s indeed the case, they need to change the definition of themselves to “pathetic sellouts.”
