In case you missed it — and chances are, you did — the late Chadwick Boseman was Hollywood’s favorite pick to win the Best Actor Oscar for his role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”
The award ultimately went to Anthony Hopkins.
The Oscars were so sure that Chadwick Boseman was going to win that they REARRANGED THE ENTIRE CEREMONY so his category could be last, and then they gave the award to Anthony Hopkins instead…the most chaotic and unhinged thing I've ever seen.

Chadwick Boseman was a tremendous actor, but we all know that's not why the Academy was totally sure he would win. They were expecting a meta award, which is cynical and frankly disrespectful.

And speaking of disrespectful, how about this?

The way to immortalize an artist, is to honor them with art.
I was tasked to create a tribute NFT for Chadwick Boseman for the Oscars! Bringing this piece to life has been one of my most challenging & rewarding experiences as an artist.

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman is getting an NFT [non-fungible token] tribute in this year’s Oscar Nominee gift bags. 3D artist Andre Osha [sic] got commissioned to make the artwork for the festivities. The Colon Cancer Foundation is selling the NFT to raise money for their cause. Boseman is actually up for Best Lead Actor for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. A lot of people think that he stands a great chance of winning after his tragic death. If you want a chance to own this NFT, you can check out the auction on Variable starting Sunday and running until Tuesday the 27th.
So basically:
They made him a literal token https://t.co/j1cDvpgmM3

Hoooly shit. This dude bought a 3D model of a dead person's head for $50, slapped a gold texture onto it, and is going to make hundreds of thousands of dollars pic.twitter.com/FNlqSAvhSB

He may not have even bought it:
Did you see one of the comments on that model though? It funnily enough may also have been stolen from someone else. pic.twitter.com/lfb7EXJb4y

I should've added the link so people could check for themselves.https://t.co/5BHFmGb3mo

So the “artist” that’s gonna make a crapload of money off a dead man may not have even paid for the model he used to do it.
Guess that sounds about right.
I wonder how deep this rabbit hole's going to end up being.

We’re not sure we want to find out. What a disgrace to Boseman’s memory.
ah yes, the best way to honor a black man, commodifying and selling him
— Unhappy Poster (@califormian) April 25, 2021
To recap – they literally turned Boseman into a token by putting a NFT of him in the swag bags, rearranged the whole damn ceremony to get their money shot at the end, and got upstaged by a guy who didn't even show up
Amazing https://t.co/WDnYAcwVW1

One one level it's hilarious but on a deeper level it's pretty gross
Grandstanding on the back of a dead black man to make it look like you're really doing something is…really something
