Yesterday, Kirsten Powers weighed in on Disney’s decision to fire director James Gunn from “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3” over old tweets joking about pedophilia and child rape:
1) This witch hunt to take down people for old comments they have apologized for has to stop. @JamesGunn should be re-hired by @Disney which should not have participated in an obvious campaign to silence a Trump critic.https://t.co/67zMTuELcd via @ew
— Kirsten Powers (@KirstenPowers) July 22, 2018
2) People should be allowed to make mistakes and/or say provocative/offensive things…if they go too far they should be allowed to apologize and move on. (Note: Kevin Williamson didn't apologize for his 'hot take' about hanging women who've had abortions.)
— Kirsten Powers (@KirstenPowers) July 22, 2018
3) If conservatives don't en masse condemn the firing of @JamesGunn by @Disney they they should shut up about how they care about free speech. The end.

Maybe it’s Powers who should shut up about free speech:
These two tweets back to back are pretty incredible. Free speech arguments aren't predicated on an apology and Powers does to Williamson what she accuses people of doing to Gunn. pic.twitter.com/AQnbI7uuTl

The people who got Gunn fired were acting in bad faith & misrepresenting his take and now watch me do the exact same thing with Kevin Williamson

If Kirsten Powers doesn’t condemn The Atlantic for firing Kevin Williamson, then she should shut up about free speech.
See how this works?

Fair is fair.
"Kevin's firing was acceptable because he never apologized for something he didn't say and did provide context for." https://t.co/TEjUDh3hS7

Do you see how these speech rules are just made up on the fly, based on who someone likes or how offended someone gets? This is pure nonsense.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) July 23, 2018
Hey, those cherries aren’t gonna pick themselves!
Kevin's comment was inflammatory and exaggerated to make a real amd serious point, but he didn't apologize for it and it's also worse than pedophilia jokes for some reason that we aren't told.

This has been a really depressing part of the James Gunn disaster (I deeply deeply oppose his firing)…
Watching some liberals twist into pretzels to say "we were good to get people fired, but you are bad to do the same" https://t.co/Wz0HsIYXGd— PoliMath (@politicalmath) July 23, 2018
Yep.
This is the same PC BS we've been dealing with for decades. It's meant to shut people up and the "rules" are completely arbitrary, so you don't know whether something you say will cross someone's line. It is intended to and does have the effect of chilling speech.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) July 23, 2018
We remember when Powers expressed concern over the chilling of free speech. Does Powers remember?
She wrote a book on free speech & still seems very confused.
— Stacey (@ScotsFyre) July 23, 2018
And Powers even published a book about silencing people in this manner. Maybe she should have read it too. https://t.co/8tfnisoKDL

Some parting food for thought:
What @KirstenPowers doesn't understand is it is not about free speech. It is about double standards. The left created rules to try to shut us up, now they have to live with the consequences. They will now forever live with the rules they created.
