Oliver Willis enjoys dancing on graves. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that he’s OK with a political system that’s dug so many of them.
In case you missed it, Venezuela isn’t going to hell in a handbasket; it’s straight-up there already:
“Our pensions are not even enough for half a box of eggs," a desperate Venezuelan senior citizen tells AFP during a protest in Caracas https://t.co/48BBegxE0S pic.twitter.com/vSVWNHXCV1

How’d they get here?
Well this is what you get with unfettered capitalism and democratic freedom. https://t.co/RC0f3zR0Hz
— Caleb Howe (@CalebHowe) July 19, 2018
Caleb Howe’s joking, of course. But Oliver Willis is not:
conservatives insist on saying venezuela is the end point of socialism, ignoring that the venezuelan govt was fueled by capitalist impulses and tied their economy to oil revenue instead of putting it in a rainy day fund. https://t.co/gdvvmuaMHe

they never account for the fact that the sort of socialistic ideas embraced by many on the left in america work extremely fine in scandanavia, england, france, etc. its just much easier to point to scary brown people, ignore the details, and scream "socialism!"

So criticizing socialism for contributing to societal breakdown is racist now?
i mean jesus h im no socialist by any stretch of the imagination but this is just lazy and stupid.
— Oliver Willis (@owillis) July 19, 2018
Lazy and stupid. But enough about you, Oliver.
the lesson of venezuela is "don't lash your economy to fossil fuels," not "don't invest in a social safety net for poor and elderly people"
— Oliver Willis (@owillis) July 19, 2018
Poor and elderly people are frequently screwed by socialist policies. As are wealthy and young people. The thing about socialism is that ultimately, everyone gets screwed. Except for the government, of course.
there is also a palpable conservative fear – you can practically taste it – that if you give americans a vote between letting companies do whatever they desire and making companies earn a few less billion a year (while still making massive profits) and using that money for people
— Oliver Willis (@owillis) July 19, 2018
Does this guy ever stop blathering and just listen to himself?
that those ideas in the latter bucket would win. bigly.
— Oliver Willis (@owillis) July 19, 2018
Stifling profits and innovation has yet to benefit the public.
they just dont seem to get (and some democrats but less and less every day) that giving the people who crashed our economy in 2007-8 more power might not be a good idea, or a popular one
— Oliver Willis (@owillis) July 19, 2018
And yet, Oliver thinks the answer to society’s problems is to do just that. Three cheers for socialism!
Oliver Willis is every guy in college you eventually turned to and said, "Dude, shut up".
