As Twitchy told you, Roseanne Barr found herself in some very hot water after a pretty disgusting “joke” about Valerie Jarrett being the love child of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of the Apes.
For comedienne Wanda Sykes, a consulting producer on “Roseanne,” Barr’s tweet was the straw that broke the camel’s back:
I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC.

Never mind that Roseanne was awful and insane before she made her stupid Jarrett “joke.” Why is this what it took for Sykes to walk away?
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Roseanne has taken what could be construed as a racist (and definitely misogynistic) swipe at a black woman:
Better late than never. This isn't new, though. Roseanne has been a known quantity for years. pic.twitter.com/hwZPf4JCXI

Wow, that’s so disgusting.

And let’s not forget about this:
Sykes is apparently shocked that a woman who did a photo shoot portraying Hitler baking Jewish gingerbread men, might, possibly, have race issues https://t.co/ORn9MtLNnw

Perhaps some indication that maybe you didn’t want to associate with her https://t.co/iwNBOsj8U6

Or that she was mentally unstable in some way pic.twitter.com/hjRiH8BThk

Anyway until she said racist things to Valerie Jarrett, Sykes and others couldn’t have possibly known to stay away.
Other than the antisemitism, mob inciting, calls for beheadings, and clear mental instability.
But now we know. Now we take a stand.

But Sykes still signed on to work on “Roseanne” after all that. Why?
I'm trying to figure out why she was even working with Roseanne in the first place. I'm sure they've crossed paths many times as female comedians but that doesn't warrant Wonda putting her name on the bigoted show. https://t.co/fdD5ypYQmI

Wanda’s not exactly an angel when it comes to “jokes,” either. Her 2009 performance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner managed to raise the eyebrows of even some liberals:
Sykes was at her most vicious on the subject of Rush Limbaugh. “Rush Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails. That’s like saying, ‘I hope America fails.’ Or that ‘I dont care if people are losing their homes, their jobs, our soldiers in Iraq.’ He just wants the country to fail. To me, that’s treason. He’s not saying anything differently than what Osama Bin Laden is saying.” Then, turning to the president, Sykes added, “You might want to look into this, sir. Because I think maybe he was the 20th hijacker. But he was just so strung out on Oxycontin that he missed his flight.”
Realizing she shocked the crowd with that remark, she said, “Too much? But you’re laughing on the inside…”
But she wasn’t done. “Rush Limbaugh [says] ‘I hope the country fails.” I hope his kidneys fail. How about that? He needs some waterboarding, that’s what he needs.”
But Roseanne went too far?
Roseanne’s “joke” was indeed offensive. But given Sykes likening Rush Limbaugh to a terrorist and joking about his death, her moral high ground is pretty shaky, too.
