As Twitchy told you, earlier today, Fox News military analyst and Ret. Gen. Thomas McInerney prompted bipartisan outrage with his shameful swipe at former POW “Songbird John” McCain. And Fox Business host Charles Payne didn’t even attempt to call him out on it.
Well, Payne will reportedly address the issue on TV tonight:
Charles Payne, the host in this segment, will address this matter tonight on Fox Business, according to a spox. https://t.co/qjjKw7CCdJ

A Fox spokesperson said that Charles Payne, who hosted this segment, will address this matter on-air later today. https://t.co/BrgJkBA7q2

That’s better than nothing, we suppose, but why tonight? Why not immediately after McInerney said it?
If you need a second chance to respond to a comment like that…..

Too little, too late

He should have shut it down right then and there. Too little, too late.

“Sir. Thank you very very much. Really appreciate..”
I think that’s all the addressing that needs to be replayed. Shameful.

There's only one legitimate response for a host to have to that, and it has to happen right away:
"Get the hell off my show."
"You, over there, cut to commercial while I deal with this."

In the meantime, here’s what he had to say on Twitter:
My Apology to Senator McCain and his Family
“This morning on a show I was hosting, a guest made a very false and derogatory remark about Senator John McCain. At the time, I had the control room in my ear telling me to wrap the segment, and did not hear the comment.— Charles V Payne (@cvpayne) May 10, 2018
I regret I did not catch this remark, as it should have been challenged. As a proud military veteran and son of a Vietnam Vet these words neither reflect my or the network’s feelings about Senator McCain, or his remarkable service and sacrifice to this country.”

Stay tuned for Payne’s full remarks later tonight.

He seems genuinely sorry. Good on him for calling McInerney out and for accepting responsibility.
