In his Best Actor Golden Globe acceptance speech last night, Ryan Gosling crossed a line — and today, the Independent’s Narjas Zatat let him have it:
Ryan Gosling’s Golden Globes speech about wife Eva Mendes wasn't cute, it was sexist https://t.co/oeaugyKfR7

This sounds pretty serious, you guys. So, what did Gosling say that was so horrifically sexist? Brace yourselves:
In his acceptance speech for winning a Golden Globe for Best Actor in La La Land, Ryan Gosling took a moment to thank the ‘lady’ in his life, fellow actor Eva Mendes. While he was singing, dancing and playing the piano for the role, she was at home, holding the fort, looking after things so that we could have “one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film”.“If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, would surely be someone else up here other than me to today. Sweetheart, thank you”, said the actor.
She wasn’t just making sure his dinner was cooked by the time he came home, no, she was “raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer”. Despite the swooning on social media for his Notebook-esque outpouring, I can’t help but feel that Eva Mendes, an award-winning actor in her own right, took one for the team and provided the emotional labour needed for Gosling to further his own career.
Listen for yourself:
Un. Real. Gosling thanked his wife for doing so much to support him and his career. Can you believe that guy’s nerve?

Saying nice things about your wife is sexist. https://t.co/xfURjVs2uG

What a dumb time to be alive.
this is way off the mark. If anything Gosling was showing what it takes for a real partnership here.

Not everything is sexism. Sometimes it's about one partner supporting the other. This type of criticism does not advance women.

But it does shine a spotlight on the awfulness of modern feminism.

the reporter who came up with this story is creating a problem where there isn't one!

What? It was a beautiful speech. Perceived controversy and slights are everywhere nowadays. ?

wow, super snowflake article. I thought he acknowledged his lady with gratitude and love. We should all be so lucky.

This article is everything that is wrong with liberalism today. He was honest, sincere and I'm sure she chooses her choices.

This article is in fact, just stupid.
— Thando (@ThandoKM) January 9, 2017
quite literally the stupidest article I have ever read.

All the same, here’s a helpful piece of parting advice for any men out there who’s thinking about thanking his wife for all she does:
Guys, take this to heart: even Ryan Gosling can't make feminists happy. Don't bother trying. ??? h/t @bdomenech https://t.co/fY2hMo31sj
