There are reasons why I've been skeptical that Phil Gingrey would be a good person for the GOP to have in big leadership role.

All across the Twittersphere, heads are meeting desks after Ga. Rep. Phil Gingrey, an OB/GYN, called Todd Akin’s controversial “legitimate rape” comments “partially right.” We’d hoped we were past this, but alas.
Ugh, are you kidding with this already?!? "Rep. Gingrey: Todd Akin 'partly right' about rape and pregnancy" http://t.co/7uiQwia7
— Jedediah Bila (@JedediahBila) January 11, 2013
“And I’ve delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true,” Gingrey said. “We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, ‘Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don’t be so tense and uptight because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.’ So he was partially right wasn’t he?”
No. No no no no no.

OK, Rep Gingrey. Tell us where Todd Akin was "right" on rape, so we can proceed to properly clown you.

@WillMcAvoyACN @ghsunews I just finished reading Gingrey's rape comment. I'm livid! He's crazy!

WHAT THE HELL! RT Rep. Gingrey (R-GA) says its hard for women who are actually raped to get pregnant because they are "tense and uptight"
— Belle (@belle__arina) January 11, 2013
Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) defended the rape comments made by Todd Akin (R-MO) and Richard Mourdock (R-IN). I guess he doesn't want his job.

They refuse to stop, huh? RT @aterkel: Rep. Gingrey says women unlikely to pregnant after rape bc they're "tense and uptight."

I can't even read about the Gingrey "legitimate rape" comments. I am officially putting my hands over my ears and going LA LA LA. Sorry.

I'll never understand why any politician feels compelled to discuss rape ever. Also, I still hate Todd Akin for this. http://t.co/WGmo9oGy

Politicians like Gingrey & Akin do one thing well: bring conservatives like @TabithaHale & liberals like me together in loathing them.

Bipartisanship!
After the Akin fiasco and the Left’s continued barrage of “the GOP hates women!!!11!” propaganda:
@JasonFebery @aterkel GOP Rep Gingrey: Another radical right Republican seeking power on the bodies of women. Don't GOP wmn get tired of it?
— (((L'EtatC'estMoi))) (@letat_lechat) January 11, 2013
Gingrey really should know better:
HI. I AM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. I DO NOT LEARN LESSONS: Rep. Phil Gingrey says legitimate rape comment was partially right…
— White America, Fix Your Bullshit. (@MatthewFishel) January 11, 2013
He claims his comments were merely misconstrued:
Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) says his remark that Todd Akin was "party right" when it comes to "legitimate rape" was "misconstrued."
— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) January 11, 2013
Via The Hill:
“At a breakfast yesterday morning, I was asked why Democrats made abortion a central theme of the presidential campaign. I do not defend, nor do I stand by, the remarks made by Rep. Akin and Mr. Mourdock. In my attempt to provide context as to what I presumed they meant, my position was misconstrued,” Gingrey’s office said in a statement.
Hey — here’s a great way to avoid being “misconstrued”:
Note to all politicians: STFU about rape!
