We’re only a few days into the new year, but sadly, it looks like Chicago may be on its way to reaching another deadly milestone. After over 500 homicides in 2012, today marked the city’s fifth murder of 2013.
Correction: he was the 5th Chicago murder victim of 2013. In 2 days.

The victim? 57-year-old Michael Kozel, owner of Independent Mufflers. How do Illinois Democrats plan to address the high murder rate? By pushing for a statewide ban on semi-automatic handguns and rifles, as well as a ban on high-capacity magazines. These legislators have apparently learned nothing from history. Chicago is under strict gun control laws that have done nothing to curb the murder rate. How will extending such laws to the rest of the state benefit Illinoisans?
But GUN CONTROL! RT @iowahawkblog: Correction: he was the 5th Chicago murder victim of 2013. In 2 days.

Chicago has very strict gun control. Today they recorded their 5th murder of 2013.
I'd say gun control works great for criminals.

The second largest city in Illinois, Aurora had ZERO murders in 2012 while disarmed Chicago recorded 532 murders. So we need gun control?

Making it illegal for citizens to defend themselves only encourages the people who have no regard for the law. Allowing law-abiding gun owners to protect themselves and their families may not eliminate murders, but it at least gives them a fighting chance.
