As Twitchy reported, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has chosen Tea Party favorite Rep. Tim Scott to replace the departing Sen. Jim DeMint. Conservatives by and large are applauding the selection as a Tea Party victory. NBC lapdog Luke Russert, however, saw the news as an opportunity to dig up his trusty race card.
So appointing an AfAm Repub Congressman to the US Senate proves Repub racism. Whaaaa…??? @LukeRussert

Only in a liberal echo chamber could being promoted from the House to the Senate be proof of GOP racism @lukerussert #NoDogWhistleHere
— Conservative Crank (@conservativecra) December 17, 2012
That’s right. According to Russert, Scott’s appointment to the Senate is raaaaaaaacist!!!!11! It’s all part of a grand scheme to rid the House of black Republicans. The intellectual gymnastics are truly a sight to behold, no?
Naturally, a handful of lefty dog-whistlers thanked Russert for calling attention to the GOP’s shameless racism and Scott’s status as a “token”:
@LukeRussert We don't need to see African-Americans like Alan West.
— Robert Morton (@remorton) December 17, 2012
@LukeRussert: Rather have NO Black GOPers than extreme buffoons like soon to be former Congressman West. Disgrace to his race!
— Helen J. Goss, Esq. (@Hjgoss) December 17, 2012
Because, really. No way could a black Republican be promoted on the basis of his merit, right? It’s all got to be part of some nefarious plot!
Unlike those sneaky Republicans, Democrats would never be a party to such racism.

@LukeRussert ok, how many current Senate seats are filled with Democrats that are African-American?
— Mike Hancho (@MikeHancho7) December 17, 2012
@LukeRussert How many black Democrats will there be in Senate? In 2010, how many black Dems ran for House? Republicans had 32….a record.
— Princess Consuela Banana-Hammock (@kimmie_c_) December 17, 2012
It didnt take long for @lukerussert to pull the race card, but fails to mention the number of Democratic African Americans in the Senate.

Maybe @LukeRussert would be so kind as to list all the black Dem senators. @gabrielmalor: Oh, fer Pete's sake. http://t.co/Aj2kwsqK
— The H2 (@TheH2) December 17, 2012
@LukeRussert As opposed to all those Democratic black senators?
— richard mcenroe (@richard_mcenroe) December 17, 2012
Hear those crickets chirping?
These folks raised a great point:
@LukeRussert Yet another reason to be sad West and Mia Love were defeated by white Dems…

And where was Luke Russert when all that racism was going down? Why, busy polishing his lapdog race whistle!

Yeah, but if that’s true, what purpose does Russert serve, other than to be a punchline?

@LukeRussert Way to get right at the heart of the story there Luke.

@LukeRussert Gotta find a way to put a negative spin on it, right? Nice. MSNBC will be proud!

@LukeRussert Sad and pathetic remark
— Purp (@PurpAv) December 17, 2012
Indeed. Russert is in desperate need of new material. Meanwhile, maybe he could stop twisting himself into intellectual knots long enough to tip his hat incoming senator. Unlike “real reporter” Russert, Tim Scott has earned his title.
Hi @LukeRussert. You seem to be race-obsessed. How about a congratulations to Tim Scott, who will be the only African-American in Senate?
