As Twitchy reported earlier this week, Newark Mayor Cory Booker has accepted a challenge to live off of food stamps to draw attention to the plight of food stamp recipients. Booker confirmed today that he will be participating for one week in December:
We will be providing information on the #SNAPChallenge (http://t.co/Ko8e0VGY) starting on 12/4 – 12/11 in coming days
— Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) November 21, 2012
And tweeting about the experience:
I will document the #SNAPChallenge experience on @waywire @LinkedIn @Twitter and @Facebook 12/4 – 12/11

We, also, will be providing information in the coming days about how you can join us in the #SNAPChallenge

Booker has also called for more money for New Jersey public schools to fund things like nutrition. Actress Kirstie Alley, who agrees with Booker on this count, is pledging her support and vowing to participate in the SNAP Challenge as well:
@CoryBooker @proudamerican8 Children can not learn or concentrate if they are hungry and under nourished. It's tax money well spent. I'm

But while Alley agrees with Booker that better nutrition for children is a cause worth supporting, she also shines a spotlight on misuse of tax dollars:
@CoryBooker @proudamerican8 NOW for my extremely LONG list of TAX dollars that are NOT well spent… ITS endless.. ugh…;)

Still, if it’s for the children …
