Happy #Strikesgiving! SEIU strikes at Port of Oakland, truckers blocked

As Twitchy reported yesterday, the SEIU is commemorating the Thanksgiving holiday with a #Strikesgiving of its own. Calls for port strikes are escalating — how better to serve the common man than to shut down our ports? — and today, the SEIU is reveling in a strike at the Port of Oakland.

OAKLAND — Striking workers brought operations to a halt at gates to the Port of Oakland Tuesday morning, leaving more than 100 trucks lined up waiting to get in.

Employees from Service Employees International Union Local 1021 were also picketing at Oakland International Airport, but those workers left to help cover the many entrances at the port, according to union spokeswoman Anna Bakalis. The picket did not affect service at the airport, as travelers began to gear up for the Thanksgiving holiday rush, according to port spokesman Isaac Kos-Read.

The strike is being honored by members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, who load and unload cargo containers on ships and trucks at the port. The participation of ILWU workers means cargo operations at the port are effectively shut down.

For the children. Always.

The strike is reportedly set to end tonight at 9 p.m., but whether or not that’s the case, we can be sure that the SEIU and fellow union thugs will ensure that #Strikesgiving sticks around.
