It's not often that I come across a post or a thread on Twitter that makes me think and smile at the same time. Usually, I'm either shaking my head in disbelief about how insane or horrible someone is or laughing maniacally at another Biden gaffe or Fani Willis update (you guys, it's not looking good for her, at all). There is so much that is fairly insincere when it comes to social media in general, that when you come across sincerity it can almost surprise you.
Sort of like how this post surprised me.
It didn't hurt that I came across this right after I made a pretty big mistake thinking a post on Facebook was real when in all actuality it was an imposter. We all make mistakes and I was quick to correct and contact Facebook about the imposter, but that didn't really make me feel any better. To be fair, in a world where everyone wants to get the story, break the story, it's easy to misstep BUT I still couldn't accept I'd screwed up.
Honestly, even now several hours later I'm not ok with it ...
I bring it up though because I was really feeling pretty horrible when I came across Nick Sortor's post talking about needing God in his life.

I think I need God in my life.

But I have no idea how the hell to do that.
Especially as someone that is naturally skeptical of literally everything.
Any tips?
Love this.
So much.
I did respond to Nick and said he should just start talking to Him, because God is always listening. Others brought up the Bible and some verses (all really good) but I wanted him to know that it doesn't take anything fancy to connect with God ... just reach out to Him. I learned this when my daughter was born three months early way back in 2005, I talked to God every day. And while I had never been overly religious or faithful, I did go to mass and I did say my prayers.
But when she was born, it became a daily dialogue. And sure, it started out a bit more formal but as the days went on it became more conversational.
I'd never felt closer to God than at that time in my life and luckily, I've maintained that 'friendship' with Him.
That connection tells me I am never alone.
Other responses:
I'd suggest the gospels as a starting point. John is often referenced as the favored book in that regard by new believers or searchers.

My TL doesn't look it but I'm an ordained minister. If you have questions I'll happily try to help.
Look for God intellectually as in Aquinos proofs then question everything with a person who has answers. God reveals Himself in many ways. pic.twitter.com/7AwOAVAdju

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis is in my experience a wonderful point of entry for the natural skeptic.
