Welp, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has really been making a fool of herself again, this time by claiming the VA isn’t broken and the GOP is only ‘trashing’ the giant, bureaucratic nightmare so they can make money on vet’s healthcare.
Yeah, we get it, she has to somehow convince people the VA doesn’t suck so she can pretend the government controlling healthcare isn’t a bad thing.
Socialists. *eye roll*
The GOP participates in a lobbyist-friendly campaign to trash the VA, so we tear it up & shop out vet care to for-profit healthcare corps.
To reduce VA wait times, we must FUND the VA so they can hire+fill the 48,000 vacancies for healthcare providers for our vets. #ProtectTheVA https://t.co/unC7c4zs2n
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) April 25, 2019
Like any good Democrat, AOC is POSITIVE the solution is throwing more money at the problem.
Like many public systems, GOP want to rip the battery out + say the whole car doesn’t work, so they can sell it for parts.
Fully funding the VA & hiring to fill the *49k vacancies* is a clear path to improving it – not auctioning off our vet care systems to for-profit companies.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) April 25, 2019
And there it is. For AOC, this isn’t about helping the vets, this is about protecting her master, the federal government.
Wonder what vets have to say on this?
Been trying to see a psychiatrist for months. It's a mess. My social worker is earning her pay trying to get me seen tho
— Adelphi dead x_x (@morrthemerri_er) April 25, 2019
Months.
What we want at the VA is the option to seek private healthcare
— Izzy Melo (@iamverysmart_) April 25, 2019
As a vet I have experienced the VA's medical offerings. I went just once to the VA hospital here in Dallas & it was the most frustrating experience I have ever had with a govt run agency. I am 1 of the lucky ones who has a choice in my med care. Give others the choice they earned
— alfredo de la rosa (@AlDelarosa71) April 25, 2019
Here is truth just in case you care…tri-care is universal health care and it sucks. Long wait times, sub-par docs, opioid pushing, lack of patient record sharing bureaucracy. I shudder to think of how the VA will treat me when I retire. Enjoy your gold standard healthcare plan.
— Brian Southard (@BrianSouthard4) April 25, 2019
Good point. Gotta love how elected officials like AOC pretend government healthcare is so RAD knowing they will never have to use it.
The VA has tons of money. I work there. I see it getting spent everyday. Throwing more money at it isn't going to change anything. If you want to fix the vacancies, fix the onboarding process because its absolute hell.
— Ryan (@PentryaRyan) April 25, 2019
The whole thing is Hell.
VA makes the hiring process so difficult that nurses and health professionals take jobs in private sector instead of waiting for months.????
— SC?”Along the Watchtower” (@SherryCarlin1) April 25, 2019
Months.
Again.
Why do better or be better when they know there is zero competition and vets have no choice? That is EXACTLY what government healthcare takes away … choice.
You are poorly informed if you think the VA is so great. I guess you have forgotten about all the news stories about Vets dying while waiting to get treatment. If you feel it's so great why not give up your congressional health plan and use the VA.
— just your normal guy (@manateenative) April 25, 2019
Yeah, we’re sure she’ll get right on that.
— Richard Schrade Jr. (@schraderdc) April 25, 2019
True story.
The VA is a monstrous bureaucracy that cannot be efficient.
It will never work.
Massive government institutions are never efficient. Break it up. Make it a $$ transfer program like Medicare.
— Blair “Code Whisperer” McKee (@BlairDMckee) April 25, 2019
Or better yet, privatize it.
The VA has been broken for some time…it KILLS people…that's the problem with Government run health care…
— Harry Gato ✝️ ⛪?? (@harrygato) April 25, 2019
Uh huh, and in the meantime? Deny veterans the option of going to the provider of their choice?
— Corey Uhden (@CACoreyU) April 25, 2019
Yeah, because the government is doing a bang up job running it all these years…
— Rik Thibodeau (@RikThib) April 25, 2019
Seems like wait times went down as privatization increased.
— Clay Unruh (@ceu101) April 25, 2019
While I appreciate the sentiment, the problem goes far beyond wait times. You should take an hour to watch "Seal Team" Season 2 Episode 19. They did a good job showing what the problems are. Improving the Health Care in the VA system is going to take more than just funding and

of care in the VA system. We're nothing but cattle that get herded in, a few questions get asked, a couple basic "Cost Effective" tests are done, and decisions are made all without actually listening to the patient, and then shoved out the door so the next patient can be seen.
— Charles Sutton (@CharlesMSutton) April 25, 2019
It’s so broken. I doubt Republicans or Democrats alike know how broke it is because that truth is masked as much as possible. I have worked with Service & Family members for years & it is heartbreaking seeing the struggle for care. We need a nonpartisan solution desperately
— JustCalmNsense (@JustCalmNsense) April 25, 2019
You think that sounds wrong? Well let's use more accurate wording. How about a system where the patient has options where the Healthcare giver needs to do a quality job and take care of patient or they'll see someone else.
— Scott Krupp (@ScottClev33) April 25, 2019
We should not have socialized medicine in any form. It takes the choice of healthcare away from the patient and family and puts it firmly in the hands of the government who is totally inept at running anything.
— Chris Lightfoot (@clightfoot100) April 25, 2019
And THAT sums the VA up PERFECTLY.
Totally inept.
