Turn Those Election Day Jitters Into a Productive Get Out the Vote Game Plan

If you're anything like me, the Election Day jitters have set in. There is now only one full day until Election Day. All of the prognostications and polls will fall to the side as we get the actual results in. Some pundits are predicting Kamala will win in a landslide. Others say Trump once again has a hidden contingency of voters who will come out and vote and bring home the win. Honestly, no one knows. The best we can do now is vote, encourage our friends and family to vote, and pray.

I am a terrible sleeper to begin with so I can't blame it all on the election, but admittedly, it is keeping me up at night. I know America will go on. I just wonder what it will look like in four years if Kamala wins. My personal worst fear is she will win and because people came out to vote for the 'First Woman President' in droves, they will also pull Democratic down ballot candidates across the finish line. What if we have Democrats controlling every branch of government? Surely, they will blow up the filibuster and pass a 'abortion until the time of birth' law, they will add seats to the Supreme Court and install activist judges and they will legalize all sorts of crazy things. Even if your vote won't matter in a Presidential race, it very well could be the deciding factor in a small local race. Please go vote.

Finally, think about who may need a ride to the polls. Do you have a friend or family member who can no longer drive and did not send in a ballot? How about that friend who voted in 2008 for Barack Obama because it was a historic Presidency, but became disgruntled with the Democrats? Take them to vote. If you live in a state with same day voter registration, take someone new to register and vote. It's a great use of all that pent up nervous energy.

Stop right now and think of five people you can text and remind them to vote. To get it started, I'll tell you who I am texting:

Allen (an old friend), three of my friends with who I share a group text, and I texted my old Pastor's wife. Look at your contacts list and reach out. It's a good way to say hello to an old friend. You don't have to tell them how to vote (unless they ask), but remind them to go vote. If everyone reaches out to five people, it could be extremely meaningful. Thankfully, God is in control, but he allows us to use our feet to activate our faith.
