Housing prices, like most everything else, have skyrocketed under Joe Biden. There does not seem to be any relief in sight. Between the high prices and the exploding interest rates, young home buyers are feeling pushed out of the market.
In a reasonable California housing market, a family of four should have no issues finding something affordable.

We are not living within a reasonable California housing market when median listing prices in LA are over one million dollars.
The funny part about inflation is it never goes backwards…. Housing prices never went down when they rose… they did use to be closer to the income but that gap is wide as outside now

Today, I urged @POTUS to halt excessive federal spending and take action on the housing crisis.

Since 2021, prices have increased by 19.4%, weekly earnings have decreased by 3.9%, and the cost of a monthly house payment has doubled.

My children are in a unique position because I stumbled onto property 10 years ago and bought it. It made me very house poor, but eventually my Mom was able to build a home on my property, and my son has moved a tiny house onto the property as well. We can still add two small homes to the property. At some point, we will probably play 'musical houses' and my Mom and I will build and move into the smaller homes while my children move into the larger original homes with their young families. At least, that is an option for them. As it stands, a very small family home in our area would be $300,000 so this option gives them much more wiggle room.
I just trolled my daughter's Facebook page and she likes the idea of all of us living in a family compound!!! I'm so happy that I can cry. All this time, I was sure a nursing home was in my future.😭🥰😁 pic.twitter.com/HMTSLystLA

The way we live is catching on as other families share their stories on social media. It's not easy and it takes sacrifice and respecting boundaries, but in the end, it has been nothing but beneficial for my family. I was able to help my Mom with my Dad until his death. My son who is a firefighter paramedic was able to pick up his grandfather when he fell or needed help down the stairs.
Growing up is realizing I rather live on a family compound and in the country over a city.

To some, it sounds like a nightmare, but the gains really do outweigh the costs. Children have many adults around for counsel and security, older people have young people to help them and ensure they are cared for and working parents have many hands to help their busy families. If my daughter doesn't like the food in my refrigerator or she is just sick of me, she can walk to her Grammy's house for snacks and therapy. When my son goes to work for his 24 hour shift, his dog comes to stay with me for the night. It adds a bit of ease to life.
The cure for high prices is high prices.

Housing supply will increase (bullish homebuilders) and people will migrate to lower cost of living areas (bullish Rust Belt cities and affordable Southern cities). We may also see behavioral changes, eg multi generational homes https://t.co/CPy3ezKirn
This lifestyle is worth considering. As a huge fan, let me encourage you to start the conversation over your summer vacations with your family. Prices apparently are not going down and so our only response can be to acclimate and adjust in the best interest of our beloved families.
