My Heartcry for the Peace of Israel and Solidarity With Its Beautiful People

(AP Photo/Ariel Schalit)

Admittedly, these last few days have felt a bit disorienting for me. I always saw the Republican party as the party who stands with Israel. The party that understood the importance of the Jewish people having their own nation state after what they've endured through time and immemorial. Then, October 7 happened. The Jewish people faced their worst tragedy since the Holocaust. We watched as whole families were murdered, beautiful and happy young women were raped at a musical festival, old women were brutalized and then people were kidnapped. I expected there to be this outcry in support of Israel and their right to defend themselves and enact revenge. That is what we would demand as Americans. There was some of that, of course. I highlighted one in the speech by Senator Katie Britt. Then came the naysayers. I expected that nonsense from the members of 'The Squad'. That is how Democrats behave, after all. What I didn't expect was the 'whataboutism' from those in conservative media.

First of all, one of Tim Pool's staff and 'The Red Headed Libertarian' mocking Bethany Mandel, a Jewish conservative writer and political commentator who happens to personally know people lost in the October 7 massacre. Bethany has also actively worked to platform Jewish people with stories to share in the Media over the last two weeks, and as she has small children at home, they are bound to overhear the stories. Of course, Cassandra and The Readed Headed woman find it all so hilarious.

A terrible choice.

That's a great question. Then, there were more tweets at Tim Pool.

Then, a building on a church property in Gaza was bombed and unfortunately civilians were killed. This, after Israel gave days of warning to the people in Gaza to leave the area. The blame of course lays with Hamas as they store their munitions in civilian areas. Charlie Kirk, however, decided to lecture his audience about not being mad enough at .... Israel. If the Canadian military had para-glided into Michigan and raped and killed 1,400 people, America would retaliate and it would not matter if civilians were lost. That's the price of war.

Then, Candace Owen weighed in. Of course, Christians should mourn the loss of other Christians. As a Christian, my heart breaks. I do know where to place the blame, though. It's not at the feet of Israel. None of this would have ever happened had Hamas not attacked innocent Israelis. Period.

You can mourn the death of innocent civilians without pretending Israel is responsible for those deaths.

This is an example of the people they are winking at with these kind of tweets. Maybe I was naive and did not realize the GOP was so rampant with this type of thinking.

So, this was me saying what was on my heart. It was a bit disjointed but I'm so angry and sad and lost. I really hope the GOP is not headed the way it appears to be. There is time enough for those who know standing with Israel is the right and noble thing to do to drown out these voices, I think. I hope.
