I was glad to hear the news Mitt Romney would not run again today. I think he is a good family man and it is time to go home and spend time with his children and grandchildren. I disagreed with Mitt on policy from time to time, but other instances, I agreed with him. His constituents in Utah seemed to like him well enough, so he probably would have won again. Instead, he did the right thing for his country and said it was time to hand the baton to a new generation of leadership. He's right.
BREAKING: Mitt Romney announces he won’t seek re-election in 2024

“At the end of another term, I’d be in my mid-eighties. Frankly, it’s time for a new generation of leaders.”
How utterly ironic that it’s Romney who is doing the respectful and appropriate thing and just…
Mitt Romney not running for reelection. Cites age as a factor.

Worth noting he is younger than both President Biden and former-President Trump, and he doesn’t serve in an executive position. https://t.co/A7SZsTvAwS
My Dad worked for a Fortune 500 company for 37 years and promoted to top leadership. When he reached 59, they made it clear to him, he should look to retire by age 60. This is the way with leadership in most large companies. They recognize both the mental and physical strain hours of work and an ever changing financial landscape takes on the person sitting at the desk where the buck stops. Now imagine that pressure magnified hundreds of times as you know people's very lives lie in your hands. There is a reason Presidents age so much in office. To imagine both of the leaders for the nomination of the major parties are nearly or already octogenarians is baffling. This doesn't apply just to Presidents, of course. It also applies to people heartbeats away from the Presidency or running our Congressional bodies like: Pelosi, Schumer, Feinstein and McConnell.
He's doing as our founders expected

Certain people will never leave, others think no matter how old they are they should be elected. We need new blood . I will not vote for somebody over 70
Obviously, our government has strayed way away from what the Founding Fathers intended, but I think they would be shocked to see 80 year old men running the most powerful country in the world. They intended for citizens to serve their country for a bit and then go home and go back to 'civilian life'. There are perverse incentives to stay in government too long these days.
The gerontocracy has to end.

It's clear, politicians won't do the right thing and so it is up to voters to do it for them. It's astounding to think voting for people in their 50's and 60's would be a huge improvement! People in their 30's and 40's seem like absolute children in comparison. Heh! How can we expect our country to be on the cutting edge of technology and business advancement when our leadership is a decade past the life expectancy for American men?
regardless of how you feel about mitt, you have to give him credit for knowing when it’s time to get off the pot. if only the congressional geriatric class did this.

it doesn’t matter how sharp you are for your age. elderly members of congress pose an endless list of problems. pic.twitter.com/1YfRrt5fHo

Mitt Romney, 76, said he would not run for re-election due to his age. In contrast, Nancy Pelosi, 83, has announced her re-election bid, saying the city of San Francisco “needs” her.

Why would a politician want to work in their mid 80s?
If they would have to retire in the… pic.twitter.com/womb9Y2HEi
On the other hand, I would submit the last thing this country needs is Nancy Pelosi, no matter her age.
