Joyce Carol Oates sees intolerance in Cruz's 'shining city on a hill'

Leave it to a leftist academic to interpret a positive thing in the most negative way possible. And note the smug attribution to Cruz’s “speech writer” as if he had no hand in putting his message into words. Cruz wasn’t reading it off a teleprompter, Joyce.

Yes, this is clearly a message of intolerance.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

Pretty astonishing that a so-called intellectual wouldn’t remember that the phrase is clearly an homage to Ronald Reagan’s usage of it, but Twitchy has documented that Oates isn’t the most astute thinker.

Yeah, sounds pretty awful.
