On Friday, Twitchy told you about how Craig Thomas, co-creator of the sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” wants to “continue evolving as a nation”: try banning guns “first,” discuss the trampling of the Second Amendment later. His partner, “HIMYM” co-creator Carter Bays, isn’t satisfied with merely banning “assault rifles.” He wants to “ban them more.”
Bays retweeted Thomas’ now-deleted tweet lecturing you dummies about the meaning of the “AR” in “AR-15.”

Is he sure it doesn’t stand for “All the Restrictions”?
@HimymCraig No, it stands for Armalite.

B … b … but …
@schveiguy @HimymCraig But it's an assault rifle.
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 2, 2013
@CarterBays @HimymCraig An assault weapon has to have 2 of certain traits. An AR-15 can be made without those features, and frequently is.
— Steven Schveighoffer (@schveiguy) November 2, 2013
You know what we need? More “imperfect” laws.
@schveiguy @HimymCraig Semantics. Just ban them. Write an imperfect law, I don't care. Err on the side of saving lives.
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 2, 2013
Because it’s not like one of those scary guns ever saved a life, right Carter?
@CarterBays @HimymCraig They were banned already. We got Columbine and Virg. Tech as a result. CA still bans them. It doesn't work.
— Steven Schveighoffer (@schveiguy) November 2, 2013
Behold Bays’ approach:
@schveiguy @HimymCraig Ban them more. State ban?! Who cares. Make it a federal crime. Equal to possessing anthrax, which it basically is.
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 2, 2013
How about this for a law: Can you use it to kill twenty people in ten seconds? Is it not a vehicle? If yes on both, it's illegal.
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 2, 2013
I'm sorry to get political but this hits very close to home.
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 2, 2013
@CarterBays so gasoline and a match? Illegal? A plane? Illegal? Fertilizer? Illegal?
— PA Medic (@49pamedic) November 2, 2013
@49pamedic And fertilizer, if you have enough to kill 20 people, I think you should need a license. Maybe you already do, I don't know.
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 2, 2013
@CarterBays stick to TV.
— PA Medic (@49pamedic) November 2, 2013
@49pamedic Hey man, this is America. We all get to play.
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) November 2, 2013
Hey, man, this is America. There’s another amendment after the First. What’s it called? Oh, yeah, the Second.
