Ellen Barkin: Utah station that won't air her sitcom has 'sacred undergarments' in a 'Mormon twist'

A Salt Lake City, Utah, NBC affiliate owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has no plans to air a sitcom starring Ellen Barkin when it debuts this fall. “The New Normal” features a gay couple starting a family with the help of a surrogate.

The perpetually outraged Barkin claims the station is shunning her show due to anti-gay bigotry.

But the CEO of KSL’s parent company told The Salt Lake Tribune, “For our brand, this program feels inappropriate on several dimensions, especially during family viewing time.” He explained that the station occasionally passes on content that “crosses the line” with “rude and crude” dialogue, explicit scenes or offensive characterizations.

Deadline reports, “The show features racy language mostly courtesy of the outspoken, politically incorrect character of the surrogate’s mother played by Ellen Barkin.”

Ignoring the station’s explanation, the frequently foul-mouthed actress urged her Twitter followers to protest the station’s “blatantly homophic decision.”

She attempted to rally Lady Gaga and her “little monsters” against the “monstrous” station.

Finally, Barkin couldn’t resist giving into her anti-Mormon bigotry.

Exactly. Much like Cher and actor Michael McKean, Barkin “just can’t help” flaunting her disdain for the Mormon faith. In her progressive bubble, tolerance doesn’t include those icky Mormons.
