Washington Post columnist Margaret Sullivan says the time is now for members of the national media to choose sides and become pro-gun control.
The media’s by-the-numbers coverage of gun massacres must change. Yes, even if that means (gasp) choosing sides. My column https://t.co/3GwgejIAu3

She uses coverage of civil rights and climate change to justify her advocacy:
Just as there was in the 1950s and 1960s while covering civil rights, or today in covering the climate crisis, there actually is a right or wrong side on the matter of controlling rampant gun violence.
Journalists need to be on the right side of that, and not afraid to own it.
But then there’s her premise, that the media have heretofore not chosen a side, which seems to be quite faulty.

Now is a time for “choosing sides” could also be translated to mean now is the perfect time to be open about the side we’re on.
