The NFL is coming under immense scrutiny as to what does and what does not constitute a roughing the passer penalty. Some believe the league is getting away from the essence of the game in order to protect quarterbacks.
Here is a play from the Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Redskins in which Clay Matthews sacks Alex Smith.
This is roughing the passer, apparently.

Needless to say, the prevailing sentiment is that the play should not be called as a roughing the passer penalty.
This is an absolute joke @NFL. Youth football players, there is no future for you on defense. Rules are made by owners who really don’t care about player safety but protecting their million dollar QB investments. I strongly recommend playing offense. https://t.co/9WwJJfOQ7Z

The NFL can't protect themselves from themselves. What a joke calling that on Matthews again. #Packers

Defending the absurdity. The NFL is ruining the game. #packers https://t.co/v4FX3PnpKu

Time to make the NFL great again.
If either party made that their platform and sole issue ahead of November’s midterm elections, they might just gain large majorities in both houses.
