A new video released by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico clearly shows actor Alec Baldwin with his finger on the trigger while rehearsing the scene that moments later led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the wounding of director Joel Souza from a live round that was in the gun:

Gun expert Stephen Gutowski explains how this could have led to Baldwin firing the fatal shot:
“It appears Baldwin had his finger on the trigger when he pulled the hammer back and released it. If so, that would cause the hammer to fall, strike the primer on the round of ammunition, and fire.”

And this is what he previously “described as the most likely after Baldwin made his initial comments about the shooting.”
“He likely had his finger holding the trigger down while he pulled the hammer back and released it,” Gutowski tweeted:

Emily Miller noted that this video contradicts what Baldwin told the public and what he said in his ABC interview:
Now we have photo evidence of Alec Baldwin with his finger on the trigger. He lied to ABC and the public.
Let me know if you find any media outlets correcting or updating their stories about how the gun went off on its own! https://t.co/HVZMXcBT3A

And one video captured Baldwin talking to his wife in an empty interrogation room. Pro-tip, criminals: don’t do this:

According to authorities, the incident remains an open investigation:
No charges have yet been filed in the case, though local authorities have been scrutinizing the actions of Alec Baldwin, as well as assistant director Dave Halls and armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed.
