Former President Donald Trump sat down for an interview with Candace Owens ad forcefully defended the Covid vaccines developed with the help of his Warp Speed program.
“The ones who get very sick and go to the hospital are the ones that don’t take the vaccine,” the former president told Owens. “If you do get it, it’s a very minor form . . . People aren’t dying when they take the vaccine”:

And he called the vaccines “one of the greatest achievements of mankind.” Watch for yourself:

It’s notable that he pushed back on Owens when she tried to point out the number of deaths from Covid this year with vaccines fully available when compared to last year:
Donald Trump offers an emphatic and stirring defense of COVID vaccines, as Candace Owens pushes him on the question of mandates. Trump not only encourages everyone to take the vaccine but warns that those who are getting sick and dying are largely the unvaccinated. https://t.co/aYgkDIoCY3

There are a lot of Trump supporters who won’t be happy with this take:
Candace Owens tries to insinuate the COVID vaccine doesn’t work by saying more people have died under Biden than under Trump.
Trump points out that the people still going to the hospital and dying are almost all unvaccinated.

And libs are confused by his comments as well:

So, he’s running?
Trump's recent outspokenness about the effectiveness of vaccines, and his defense of them, are the strongest implications yet I've seen of him running in 2024: https://t.co/SvpYZg4SJT

The NYT’s Maggie Haberman offers up some alternative explanations as well:
Either a) one of his $ supporters encouraged him b) he wants the positive reinforcement c) he’s contrasting with other R candidates d) he’s running https://t.co/geePLX9lNc
