The New York Times is under fire this morning over this piece on Neera Tanden, head of the Center for American Progress, that used quotes from her 78-year-old mother to paint the Hillary cheerleader in a negative light:
I see what you did there, @nytimes. You interviewed her mom about what a fighter @neeratanden is, and then used those quotes against her in your article.

There really is not enough popcorn in the world to watch the CAP-Bernie feud play out like this:
NYT clearly ambushed Neera's mom here…..not fair, and not right. She's not a public person, and obviously had no idea what she was saying would end up in the paper. Could have written this story and made the same points without embarrassing her mother.

Not cool, NYT:
Stuff like that just infuriates me. @neeratanden is in the public light and her mother is not. The Times should know better.

Neera wondered if sexism was involved, too:
Good summary. https://t.co/CBCAcEGCzz

Quotes from Neera’s mom:
It sort of reminds me of stories I wrote for the paper in college where I didn't know anything about anything but I knew I was supposed to quote people and Write With Authority pic.twitter.com/UWwJVBAUXL

And she’s no fan of the “Bernie brothers.” LOL:

Kenneth Vogel, one of the Times’ reporters on the story, actually promoted the mother’s quotes on Twitter:
THANKS, MOM! @NeeraTanden says she’s not out to get @BERNIESANDERS & wants unity among Democrats.
Neera’s mom, OTOH, says her daughter believes Bernie “got a pass” in 2016, “but he’s not getting a pass this time.” https://t.co/EAl4rpwZiI

According to a statement from the family, Maya had no idea she was “on-the-record” nor did she even know what that term meant:

STOP UPSETTING HER MOM, YOU GUYS:
I love my mom. She's not involved in politics. And this is all very upsetting to her. https://t.co/KQE8Q8OSxy
