Author and engineer Homer Hickam, who sits on NASA’s National Space Council, got into a spat with a Twitter user after she used foul language to announce her internship with NASA on Twitter.
@NaomiH_official wrote, “EVERYONE SHUT THE F*CK UP I GOT ACCEPTED FOR A NASA INTERNSHIP.” To which Hickam simply replied, “Language.”
That’s when “Naomi” responded with, “Suck my dick and balls I’m working at NASA.”
Hickam, in a now deleted exchange wrote, “And I am on the National Space Council that oversees NASA”:

Whoops. NASA did pull her internship over the exchange, but Hickam — being a class act — explained in a blog post that he was only looking out for the woman and was warning her about using foul language and tagging NASA in a tweet. The two have reportedly been in touch and Hickam was trying to get her internship back at NASA or an even a better one someplace else:
A furry became an intern for NASA and got fired after tweeting at someone on the NASA council to suck their dick. Naturally, this is the only story this week that has a happy ending… https://t.co/P5W9XQmFpB

Update: @homerhickam deleted his twitter account following the abuse he got from others about his reply. He has since posted this note… pic.twitter.com/c3N1uaRILE

But then things got weird. Apparently Naomi is a “Furry” — people who dress up in animal costumes — and members of the Furry community got furious at Hickam, which caused him to delete his Twitter and the blog post he wrote where he explained how he was trying to help Naomi:
NASA engineer Homer Hickam deactivated his Twitter after a sustained harassment campaign from members of the furry community following a brief interaction with a would-be NASA intern (a furry) who spewed profanity at him.
He also deleted his blog defending the furry. pic.twitter.com/TYAx3mVSLb

And this is why we can’t have nice things:
The Twitter bullies have mobbed and harassed Homer Hickam @HomerHickam into deleting his Twitter account. What a generation. What a generation.
