It appears we’ve all missed a major story out of Germany where Angela Merkel’s coalition government might be on the verge of collapse which could lead to her resignation:
Biggest story you're likely missing right now: Merkel in an internal party crisis in Germany (over migration) and could lose a confidence vote this week, leading to her resignation. Situation in Berlin on a knife edge.

Which would make her reign as the “leader of the free world” rather short:

At the heart of conflict is Merkel’s liberal migrant policy:

In summary, migrants are registering in other EU countries and then travelling to Germany. Merkel’s opponents want the ability to say no to some of these migrants. Merkel wants to solve the issue with a Europe-wide solution:
Drama unfolding in Germany: Merkel (CDU) rejects interior minister Seehofer (CSU) insistence to send back certain asylum seekers at border. Merkel is increasingly backpedaling. Merkel permanently weakened as both CDU $ CSU moves towards tougher stance?@cducsubt

Latest on CDU/CSU dispute:
– Core issue: asylum seekers registered in other EU countries coming to DE
– CDU MPs back Merkel request for more time to develop EU solution
– CSU sceptical she can; Seehofer seeking authority to turn migrants back at border by executive decision— Jeremy Cliffe (@JeremyCliffe) June 14, 2018
And negotiations won’t be easy:
Compromise in CDU/CSU dispute won't come easily. For Merkel, turning migrants back at border could trigger disastrous wave of unilateralism within an already v divided EU. For CSU, doing so is the only way of showing that the government is serious about immigration. Nuance-able?

To top it all off, there’s this news today about a thwarted jihadi ricin attack:
BREAKING: German prosecutors say they have thwarted an Islamic extremist plot to launch an attack with the deadly toxin ricin.

Yeah. That won’t help Merkel’s position AT ALL:
Germany should welcome a few million more "refugees" in. https://t.co/bX5aYWZAio
