Woman accuses Neil deGrasse Tyson of rape while she was a grad student

A woman by the name of Tchiya Amet accused astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson of drugging and raping her while they were both graduate students at the University of Texas, Austin in 1984. Ms. Amet made the allegations back in 2014 and 2016, but the story is getting new life after the #MeToo hashtag campaign where women shared their stories of harassment and assault:

Ms. Amet accused Tyson of first drugging her with a “mickie” before raping her. She tweeted this in 2016, linking to a blog post from 2014:

She wrote back in 2014, addressing Tyson:

What would you say to my parents if I had told them when it had happened that you had slipped me a mickey and that you raped me while I was unconscious? What would you say to them now if they were still alive? What will you say to your wife, the woman that was on the phone as you handed me the water to drink, in a cup made out of account shell? Do you have any idea how your act of violence affected my life, the lives of my parents, my ex-husband, my daughters, and anyone and veryone that has anything to do with me?

Ms. Amet later tweeted that she once confronted Tyson about it, but he “was totally confused”:

Writer and author David McAfee has been trying to get Tyson to comment on the allegations, but, so far, nothing:

McAfee says he’s a “huge fan” of the celebrity scientist and wants to give Tyson a chance to exonerate himself:

It appears that some in the media were aware of this story back in 2016 as well:
