Illegal immigrant deported 15 times seriously injures 6-year-old in DUI hit-and-run

Catch and release and repeat and repeat and repeat……..

Lennox Lake, a 6-year-old boy in San Ysidro, CA, suffered a serious head injury over the weekend after an allegedly drunk illegal immigrant who had been deported 15 times ran a stop sign and crashed into his family’s car. Even worse, the boy was coming home from a trip to Disneyland and the crash happened one block from his home:

Doctors are hopeful the young boy will make a full recovery:

The child suffered a major head injury and was taken to a hospital. As of Tuesday night, he had undergone two surgeries at Rady Children’s Hospital, Cheryl Lake said.

Despite a long road ahead, his family and doctors are “cautiously optimistic” the boy will make a full recovery, his grandmother said.

The suspect, Constantino Banda-Acosta of Mexico, was arrested shortly after the crash. From the Los Angeles Times:

Constantino Banda-Acosta, 38, was last deported Jan. 18, with at least 14 prior cases since 2002, federal authorities said.

Banda-Acosta is accused of speeding west on Camino de La Plaza, running a stop sign at Dairy Mart Road and slamming his pickup into a Honda Accord about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Police say he did not stop after the collision.

Banda-Acosta, a Mexican citizen, was arrested about half an hour later, San Diego police and the U.S. Border Patrol said.

Recently, immigration groups have criticized DHS for saying a single DUI can be cause for deportation:

The family is raising money for Lennox on GoFundMe and shared pictures of the car that was damaged in the crash:

According to the family, Lennox will need to be in the hospital another 10-11 days on IV antibotics to fight a bacterial infection in his cranium:

The culture results came back today and unfortunately there is bacteria in the cranium, so Lennox will need to be in hospital on IV antibiotics for at least 10 – 11 more days.

We did find out the driver of the truck was 2x over the legal limit for blood alcohol levels, and had been deported earlier this year for a prior drunk driving arrest.

Get well soon, Lennox — we’ll be thinking of you:
