Liberal Twitter erupted in glee last night after the lights briefly went out on the Statue of Liberty, with many assuming it was a symbolic message to kick of International Women’s Day and #ADayWithoutWomen:

There even was a Twitter “Moment” dedicated to this wishful thinking with the tagline, “the symbolism isn’t lost on anyone”:
There’s a blackout at the Statue of Liberty. Is she officially kicking off #DayWithoutAWoman?https://t.co/7TD3zGyYq5

Well, if that “symbolism” is that government can’t keep the lights on, then we agree! Here’s the real reason Lady Liberty went dark:
Some lights on the Statue were temporarily off tonight. Likely related to new emergency generator/Hurricane Sandy recovery project work.
