Executive director of CAIR-LA apologizes for saying he was 'sad' more Russians didn't die in plane crash

Hussam Ayloush, the Executive Director of the Council on Islamic-American Relations’ Louisiana chapter, is under fire over this tweet from December 25 where he wished that more Russians were killed in the crash of a TU-154 jet into the Black Sea on Sunday:

He has since deleted the tweet and offered the lame excuse that he’s sorry because he didn’t know there were so many civilians on board:

Ayloush also apologized over on Facebook where he left his original post up. Note that he acknowledged civilians were on board when he made the same joke on Facebook:

Original Post:

I’m sad about the crashed Russian military jet. The Tu-154 could have carried up to 180 military personnel instead of just 92!

Every Russian soldier who doesn’t make it to Syria translates into Syrian civilian lives being spared.

And it goes without saying, any innocent passenger on that flight is another sad victim of Putin’s genocidal war in Syria. My position has always been to unequivocally not condone or tolerate the death of any non-combatants, including Russians. Putin has forced his murderous war on innocent people in Syria and Russia alike.

All 92 passengers and crew were killed when the Russian TU-154 jet crashed into the Black Sea en route from Sochi to Syria. The jet’s flight recorder was recovered on Monday:
