The prequel film to the Harry Potter series, “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” premiered this weekend, but it’s one of the cast members has fans outraged.
SPOILERS AHEAD.
The film takes place in New York City in the 20’s and will eventually lead up to the big battle between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald that’s talked about in the books. As such, the casting of Grindelwald is incredibly important and will be a high-profile role … a role that’s gone to accused wife-beater Johnny Depp:
Is the beast in Fantastic Beasts wife-beater Johnny Depp, or all of you going to see the film anyway despite his role in it?

Remember him?
Last week liberals loved Johnny Depp bc he made fun of Trump. What do they say now that he's an alleged wife beater? https://t.co/ZAn13wsS8S

Depp’s role in this first film is small and comes at the end in somewhat of a twist, but some fans have taken to Twitter to express their anger at his casting:
Complete waste of going with Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beasts. They should just keep Colin Farrell. No to wife abusers.

My favorite part of Fantastic Beasts was when I was woken up by everybody in the theater gasping at the sight of wife beater Johnny Depp.

When your team doesn't address JD beating his wife but instead bring up a whole different reason to not want him… https://t.co/omEjjdrs8g

Why is Johnny Depp still employed? So disappointed in Fantastic Beasts casting choice. Nobody wants a wife beater on screen.

Over to you, J.K. Rowling or are we to believe Hollywood is more forgiving of domestic abusers than the NFL?
