Amy Schumer scolds MSM lapdogs on their gun control language

Liberal gun control advocate Amy Schumer has a message for the lapdogs in the MSM covering her new Comedy Central skit on gun control. You see, she wants them to stop calling it “gun control” because that implies the government is looking to control “law abiding citizens’ guns.” It’s really abot “gun safety” and “keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people.”

Yeah, that’s not how it works:

ICYMI, here’s the the skit where Schumer plays a Home Shopping Network host that will sell guns to anyone, including a caller who says he’s a felon.

“I could never get a gun. I have several violent felonies,” says the caller.

“Caller you bite your tongue you silly goose!” Schumer replies. “You can absolutely get a gun if you have several felonies, as long as you buy it on the Internet or at a gun show. And caller, guess where you are right now? Bam! A gun show!”

Even PolitFact ruled her claim “Half True“:

Schumer’s character said, “You can absolutely get a gun if you have several felonies as long as you buy it on the Internet or at a gun show.”

The kind of transaction Schumer described is possible, though illegal, and far more complicated than her comment suggests. Federal law prohibits felons from buying guns. But with some effort, they could purchase a gun from private sellers over the Internet or at a gun show without getting caught, because private sellers are not required to run background checks.

Schumer is doing a comedy bit, but compared with similar claims we’ve checked, her phrasing makes it sound like buying guns with a felony is easy and lawful. That is not the case. The context is significant. We rate her claim Half True.
