Also, how did I get through the entire red carpet without figuring out what the green ribbon some people are wearing means? #Emmys

It’s a mystery, we tell ‘ya! At tonight’s Emmy Awards, some of the celebrities in attendance can be seen sporting green awareness ribbons. But nobody really knows what cause these ribbons actually support.
Here are some of the theories.
It’s for transgender equality:
Nice to see ribbons of awareness and purpose back at awards shows. #greenribbon #transgender

So the green ribbon is for transgender equality tonight? I thought maybe it was for all the women in sexual slavery c/o #IS

Or it’s to highlight climate change:

If you're wondering why #Transparent cast members are wearing green ribbons, it's for #DemandClimateAction. #Emmys

Retake: The green ribbon might be to bring attention to climate change or for mental health. I support either. #Emmys

Although mental health awareness seems to be the best answer:

Think the green ribbon Jeffrey Tambor is wearing is for Depression awareness. Got to love how vocal Hollywood is tonight #Emmys #EmmyAwards

More from EW.com:
Multiple actors, including Transparent’s Jeffrey Tambor and Gaby Hoffmann, donned green ribbons at this year’s Emmy Awards to raise awareness for the Green Ribbon Campaign, a movement to open up discussions about mental health.
Stars also wore the ribbons last year during the Emmys following Robin Williams’ 2014 suicide. “I dealt with it firsthand and lost someone really dear to me,” Allison Janney told EW backstage at the time. “Everyone is feeling that.”
Exit question: What do mental health advocates think of the global warming alarmists who are stealing their publicity?
Update. As you can see above, some of the accounts that said the ribbons were for mental health awareness have deleted their tweets and EW.com issued this correction:
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post stated that the ribbons were to promote mental health.
According to the L.A. Times, they’re sponsored by the NRDC to promote climate change awareness:
