Baltimore riots force Johns Hopkins to postpone Ta-Nehisi Coates speech on race relations

Johns Hopkins University, which is located in Baltimore, was set to host Ta-Nehisi Coates, who was born in Baltimore, for the launch of the university’s new initiative to bring speakers to campus to discuss race issues in America.

But the ongoing riots in Baltimore have forced the university to postpone tonight’s speech:

Yesterday Coates had a widely shared piece for The Atlantic on the “con” of politicians calling for “nonviolence” in response to the death of Freddie Gray:

Maybe once the violence calms down, Coates can come back to Johns Hopkins to discuss his theory on nonviolence in greater detail.
