As Twitchy reported on Monday, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean got himself in a little trouble with actor and Twitchy favorite Gary Sinise for this comment he made to Bill Maher on Friday regarding the hit film “American Sniper”:
“There is a lot of anger in this country, and the people who go see this movie are people who are very angry … I bet you if you looked at a cross-section of the Tea Party and people who go see this movie, there’s a lot of intersection.”
After this sober and quite reasonable slap-down from Sinise, Dean decided to apologize. Except it wasn’t a real apology and only after admitting to Chris Matthews that he hadn’t even seen the film yet:
“I make no apologies to the thousands of right-wing nut jobs who have Twittering me with nasty language, but I do apologize to the veterans. We owe them a lot and I think this movie was much more nuanced than I thought.”
Sheesh. At a minimum, is it too much to ask that critics of “American Sniper” actually watch “American Sniper”?
Tweeters concurred that Dean’s apology was less than adequate:
@FoxFriendsFirst I'd call Howard Dean's apology very weak.
