'O Shame! Where Is Thy Blush?' Shakespeare's Birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon to Be 'Decolonized'

Screenshot

It is impossible to overstate the influence that William Shakespeare has had on this world. While the Bible is considered the best-selling book of all time, there is no question that Shakespeare is the best-selling author of all time. Somewhere between two to four billion of his works have been sold. Thousands upon thousands of live productions of his 37 plays have been and continue to be performed, not to mention the many film and television adaptations of those plays. His 154 sonnets are studied to this day for their themes, including love, mortality, youth, and death. And his plays have been translated into every major living language on the planet.

You would think that the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, which owns many buildings in the English town of Stratford-upon-Avon, would be beaming with pride every day for the legendary writer that the small market town produced in 1564.

Sadly, with the state of the United Kingdom these days, you would be very, very wrong. This morning, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust announced that they would be 'decolonizing' the town out of fears of 'white supremacy.'

As the Bard himself wrote, 'The fool doth think he is wise ...'

I wasn't even sure what it meant to 'decolonize' an entire town (because it is a ridiculous word), but The Daily Mail offered some additional details.

William Shakespeare's birthplace will be de-colonised over fears that portraying his success as the 'greatest' playwright 'benefits the ideology of white European supremacy'.

It wants to 'create a more inclusive museum experience' and announced it will move away from Western perspectives after concerns were raised that Shakespeare's ideas were used to advance 'white supremacy' ideas.

The trust also said that some of its items could contain language or depictions that are racist, sexist, or homophobic.

These insane accusations are primarily arising from a 2022 research project that the trust conducted with Birmingham University. They found that holding Shakespeare up as the pinnacle of literature (which he is and always will be) caused 'harm' and advised that the trust stop referring to him as 'greatest.' Instead, they recommended referencing Shakespeare as part of an 'equal but different' global community of writers.

Yay. Participation trophies for everyone.

If this sounds like all of the worst alphabet ideologies (CRT, DEI, etc.) run dangerously amok, that's only because it is.

But cultural Marxism is what it really is. All Marxism knows how to do is destroy, never create. And who better to try to destroy than the most influential writer in all of human history?

Ahh, but as the Bard himself once wrote, 'There's the rub.'

The cowardice of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in going along with this nonsense can be easily traced back to money. The trust relies on funding from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, whose primary mission is -- wait for it -- 'diversity and inclusion.'

This is how it works. This is how it always works.

This is not an exaggeration. According to the Daily Mail article, one of the promises that the trust has made as part of its 'decolonization' effort is to remove 'offensive language' from its collections.

If you don't have hard copies of Shakespeare in your home, go out and buy some. Immediately.

Yes, those points are unequivocally true. But that is exactly why they want to destroy his legacy.

This is also true. And this is also why the Marxists want that culture destroyed.

It has been remarkable, and not in a good way, to see this question played out across the UK in recent years, from punishing people for free speech to welcoming in immigrants who hate the West, and more.

Yes, these same people have tried and continue to try to destroy America as well. For a while, they were pretty successful. The good news here is that enough people finally stood up and said, 'Enough. No more.' They haven't been totally defeated, because they never will be, but sanity is winning again in America.

At least some influential people in England are starting to say the same thing.

The UK could use a lot more people like Sarah Vine.

Shakespeare's plays are filled with heroes and villains, the courageous and the cowardly alike. Antony and Cleopatra portrays Marc Antony cravenly fleeing the battle against Rome and Octavius, and the shame he felt after Actium. In contrast, Henry V shows how courageous men -- the few, the happy few -- can overcome insurmountable odds and win victory by always venturing 'once more unto the breach.'

In the UK today, it is clear that Marxists want to destroy their culture, history, legacy, and influence.

It's time for the country to choose whether it wants to be Marc Antony and fall on its sword in shameful defeat or whether it wants to be young Henry and be remembered 'from this day to the ending of the world.'
