If you've been reading Twitchy this week (and we know you have), you know how one of the Internet's and new media's most creative trolls, The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh hilariously executed a master troll of the Democratic National Convention. Showing up in a full ponytail (he's a sensitive guy, after all) and Kamala Harris shirt and hat, he walked the arena to the chagrin of anyone who recognized him, but to the delight of everyone with a sense of humor.

Later, Walsh showed everyone why he pulled off this stunt and why he is one of the best in the business.
Yes, he was promoting his new movie, Am I Racist? which debuts in theaters on September 13 and tickets are already on sale (he paid me with a free copy of his best-selling book Johnny The Walrus and a bottle of whisky for saying that).
But Walsh is not a great troll just because it's funny. He always has an important point to make. His first movie What is a Woman? was basically just a feature-length, hilarious troll, but it also pointed out the sheer insanity of the left, specifically the gender cult. Combine those two and you have one of the most popular movies of 2022 (not with critics though, most of whom still refuse to see it).

Similarly, at the DNC, Walsh accomplished another important objective along with promoting his movie: exposing the continued insanity of the left in creating a new Emmanuel Goldstein-like villain in the dreaded 'Project 2025.'
He even got Don Lemon to take one of his postcards.

Of course, the website just points to links to buy movie tickets (and one expertly placed 'Rick Roll'). But just think of how many Democrats looked up the website. Some of them may have even bought tickets.
Needless to say, I am a pretty big Matt Walsh fan. It doesn't mean I agree with everything he says. Many times, I don't. But he is funny and effective, just like I strive to be for Twitchy.
Another reason Walsh is so good at what he does is his polite, deadpan delivery and the fact that he almost never breaks kayfabe.
For those not familiar with that term, it comes from professional wrestling. Kayfabe refers to the wrestlers presenting everything they are and do as genuine and authentic, not as characters they are playing. Kind of a form of method acting. So, when Walsh is in character -- in this case as a ponytailed liberal man on a mission to educate the DNC about Project 2025 -- he STAYS in that character and never lets the secret out, even though everyone (again hilariously) already knows the secret.
On Friday, however, after successfully completing his troll of the DNC -- which he also was doing for days on his Twitter account -- Walsh gave up the ghost and announced to Twitter that it was all a gag.

Not quite to the level of renting an apartment in Loudon so that I could crash their school board meeting, but still pretty solid stuff. Certainly a top 5 troll on our trolling resume.
As a long-time Virginia resident, I remember the Loudoun troll. It was indeed funny, but also helped to expose the rot that was taking over Northern Virginia public schools. And, of course, everyone remembers how Walsh generously offered to help AOC's abuela in 2021. He even raised a ton of money, which AOC shamefully refused to accept (doesn't she care about her grandmother?).
But this breaking of kayfabe was new for Walsh. I had not seen it before, so I decided to give him a little good-natured trolling in return.

Still, I give myself some small credit for being nonplussed at the ratio and being able to fire back the last word. A last word even Walsh didn't have an answer for.

So, I got one laugh at least. That's something, right?
What is the point of all of this? Is it me just congratulating myself for my brush with greatness in an exchange with the famous actor who played Kris Dilby in Lady Ballers? An unforgettable role, by the way, criminally snubbed by the Oscars.
Perhaps a bit, but not really. I think the point is this:
As conservatives in America, we are up against a machine the size and strength of which is unprecedented, at least in this country. We are starting to win, but the left still controls all of our institutions. We need to match their ubiquitousness with our own dogged determination that they will never beat us, not in the United States anyway. If they want Communism, they can go to Venezuela. Not here.
So, it is important that we keep a sense of humor as we are constantly gaslit, manipulated, and lied to. It's one of the reasons I think so highly of Matt Walsh. As I said before, you don't have to agree with everything he says. I don't. But you have to respect all of the wins he has chalked up over the years. There aren't many on the right with a better record.
He does that by staying true to his conservative principles, of course, but also being funny, with a Steven Wright-like deadpan that is unmatched in modern political (or even comedic) circles. The left cannot get to him. He knows it and they know it, which makes them even angrier. Humor is his impenetrable armor. We should all don such armor.
And we conservatives also have to remember to have fun and keep that sense of humor with each other, which is what I think my exchange with Walsh demonstrated. We don't need infighting in our current situation.
Disagreement on principles or policies is fine, it's what makes us different from the left. But we need to remember to keep our shared values, love for each other, and yes, our ability to laugh at each other -- and ourselves -- above any squabbles we may have.
The left can't do that. We know they can't. This is how we are going to beat them.
Also, remember to see Am I Racist? only in theaters starting September 13.
You owe me another bottle of whisky for writing that by the way, Matt Walsh.
