I don't know why I continue to let the mainstream media continue to surprise me at how low they can sink. They have proven time and again that no matter how low the bar is set for them, they will find a way to slither under it.
We're in the midst of a Presidential campaign now -- and an unprecedented one at that, since one of the candidates received zero primary votes -- so the level of gaslighting could probably asphyxiate everyone from carbon monoxide poisoning. OK, fine. We cover that every day and Twitchy will continue to mock them for it, as they deserve.
But somehow, I keep hoping that the media will at least find a modicum of decency when it comes to international affairs, particularly war.
How naive of me.
Yesterday, CNN proved that it and decency have permanently broken up and there will likely be no reunion. The topic was Israel and -- to the surprise of absolutely no one (except maybe me) -- the network once again chose the side of terrorists over America's only ally in the Middle East region.

More than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its war against Hamas, health ministry says https://t.co/tjIkVAjmOa
— CNN (@CNN) August 15, 2024
When Hamas terrorists invaded Israel and slaughtered civilians on October 7, taking hundreds more hostage who have been subject to torture, degradation, and worse, the media was moderately objective about Israel's response for about 48 hours.
Since then, they have repeatedly denounced the Israeli response by reciting casualty figures -- without question or curiosity -- reported by the Gaza Health Ministry, despite the fact that the entire world knows that this ministry is actually a propaganda branch of Hamas.
But CNN is even more depraved in the story itself than this tweet headline, if you can believe it.
More than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its war on Hamas following the group’s October 7 attack, the health ministry in the enclave said Thursday, yet another dark milestone in the 10-month-old conflict.
The ministry said 40 people had died in Gaza during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths since October 7 to 40,005 – about one in every 55 people in the enclave. More than 92,401 have been injured.
The health ministry does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in its figures but says most of the dead are women and children. Israel said last month that it had killed more than 17,000 combatants in Gaza since the start of the war. CNN cannot independently verify the ministry’s numbers.
Did you notice how CNN fails to specifically name the Gaza Health Ministry there? They know they are lying and they know we know they are lying, so they try to disguise the source of these casualty figures.
In the third paragraph, CNN even acknowledges that numbers from the Gaza Health Ministry cannot be verified (and, of course, all of the killed or wounded are 'women and children'), but they still choose to use that number even though Israel estimates that the true number is less than half of what Hamas says it is.
What are you quoting numbers fed to you by a terrorist organization?

It's a very good question. CNN will never answer it.
Even the corrupt United Nations, which actually has Hamas collaborators within its ranks and has admitted the same, has halved its casualty count in the war that is now 10 months old. But not CNN. For that sorry excuse of a news organization, Hamas is still the source of record.
CNN even quotes the UNRWA later in the article, knowing full well that the UN has admitted that some UNRWA members not only sympathize with Hamas but actually participated in the Oct. 7 terrorist attack. Israel estimates the number of UNRWA workers who are terrorists could be as high as 12 percent.
Even with all of that, maybe the most despicable part of CNN's tweet and article is who they say 'started the war.' I'm sure everyone noticed that, but I will repeat the tweet again [emphasis added]:
'More than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its war against Hamas, health ministry says.'
I'm sorry, come again?
WHO STARTED IT, CNN???

“…since Israel launched its was against Hamas…” F*ck you, @CNN, you hacktastic Hamas mouthpiece. We just don’t hate the media enough. https://t.co/YaGmzkZfUC

Amazing. Simply amazing. And not in a good way.
If CNN needed a reminder of who launched this war, Twitter was happy to oblige ... graphically.

CNN doesn't like to show those pictures anymore. They want everyone to forget that Hamas initiated this particular game of FAFO, and now are not enjoying the 'FO' part of the game at all.
Shame on you, @CNN. It was Hamas that launched the war on Israel. Plus, the "health ministry" = Hamas. https://t.co/dMdUffKJaM

I wish CNN was capable of shame. I truly do. They are not.
In particular, the writer in this case is an individual named Rob Picheta. Since no one has ever heard of him, I looked into his archive of articles at CNN.
You will not be surprised to learn that this is not the first time Picheta, based in London, has sided with terrorists. Every article he has written for CNN related to the war in Gaza has taken the side of Hamas. Moreover, his 'reporting' (using that term very loosely) in recent weeks about the unrest in England is entirely focused on condemning 'right-wing extremism,' with almost no mention of the valid concerns that people in Great Britain have about the violence coming from people who are not from England at all.
What a good little apparatchik.
Sounds like terrorist propaganda to me.

It only sounds that way because that's what it is.
Hey @CNN remember when your photographer was being embraced by a Hamas leader like they were best friends??

The Internet is forever that you all support HAMAS terrorism and don't care about Jews. pic.twitter.com/a6tcHSfQuB
Thanks for that image. It helps to know who is giving CNN its marching orders.
It was gratifying to see Twitter deliver an epic ratio to CNN's tweet. Every time I see that happen, I am assured that more and more people are waking up to the media's dishonesty and utter depravity.
But not everyone is on Twitter. CNN knows that. CNN knows that there are people out there who are not politically engaged every day. And it knows that propaganda such as this article might reach some of those people who, in turn, might believe it. There is nothing more anathematic to a free press than 'journalists' who believe their mission is to influence instead of inform.
We all know that American media has always leaned left. That has always been the case and will probably always be the case. But this type of 'journalism' goes way beyond leaning left. Even the old Soviet news outlet Pravda wasn't this shameless.
I have a pipe dream on occasion where I imagine what this world and country would be like if we had an even remotely objective media (there are lots of rainbows and unicorns in that world). That dream never lasts too long though, until I see an article like the one above from CNN and I am rudely reminded that I will never live in anything remotely close to that world.
It also reminds me that no matter how much I hate the legacy media, I can never hate them enough. The limit simply does not exist.
