ESPN analyst implies QB Robert Griffin III is a 'cornball brother' due to possible Republicanism; Update: ESPN 'evaluating next steps'

On “ESPN First Take” on Thursday afternoon, analyst Rob Parker said he can’t tell if African-American quarterback Robert Griffin III is a brother or “cornball brother” because he has a white fiancée and he might be Republican. Here is the quote:

“My question, which is just a straight-up, honest question, is he a brother or a cornball brother? He’s not really … okay he’s black he kinda does his thing, but he’s not really down with the cause. He’s not really one of us. He’s kind of black, but he’s not really, like, the guy you want to hand out with … I keep hearing these thing We all know he has a white fiancée and there’s all this talk about, he’s a Republican, which there’s no information at all. I’m just trying to dig deeper into why he has an issue.”

As you can imagine, Twitter went berserk.

Heh.

No apology from Parker yet. On the contrary, he’s doubled down. He retweeted these race-baiting fans:

And then insulted one of his critics:

No kidding.

We can’t wait to find out what future gems are set to issue forth from Parker’s mouth. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long. He’s busy prepping for Saturday’s show.

Tune in to “First Take” on Saturday. You never know what you might hear.

Update:

Even race card aficionado Touré thinks Parker went too far:

Update:

ESPN’s communications director says that the network is evaluating its next steps.

That didn’t sound like a request for suggestions, but as long as there’s an ESPN official paying attention…
