Douglas MacKinnon, writing for The Hill, proposed a ‘game plan’ to help the Democrats win the presidency in 2024 by making Gavin Newsom president now.
According to MacKinnon, a writer for Reagan and Bush senior, the plan is quite simple:
If the answer is “yes,” the “solution” is really not complicated at all. In one scenario, Biden could ask Harris to resign and replace her with Newsom, who then becomes the heir apparent for 2024. Or Biden could replace Harris with Newsom and then resign himself, making Newsom the president before 2024 and arming him with the full force of the Oval Office.
Yes, you heard that right. We’ve been getting gaslit for months about the ‘end of democracy’, and this guy wants to completely circumvent the democratic process by replacing the president without an election, solely to increase Democrat chances of maintaining power in 2024. Never Trumpish, former conservatives are something else.
This take was even too much for most people on both sides of the aisle.
The competition is fierce but this is a top 5 worst political take of all time. https://t.co/cmZcc8dkc8

It is really bad. We’re sure there are worse.
Not only is this entire “dump the VP, appoint someone else, and resign” trick idiotic, but also…Newsom? Newsom is an empty Facebook Resistance meme. He’s Beto with the luck of being from a Blue State. https://t.co/ExVAxkhiD7

It’s really astounding The Hill even decided to publish this hot mess.
Fire your black female VP, replace her with a white guy she used to work with in California, then quit despite being more popular than the two of them put together. Can’t miss!

It’s brilliant!
im sure this maneuver will feel legitimate to a lot of people

Right? Nobody would have a problem with this whatsoever.
I'm really getting tired of Republicans telling Democrats would would be best for Democrats pic.twitter.com/FQy9gR48IW

We’re really getting tired of people who call themselves Republicans trying to figure out how to elect Democrats. I think we’ve achieved a moment of unity?

This meme is sort of required for this awful idea.

Yep, these takes belong together. LOL.
So are opinion writers just doing fan fiction now?

Apparently, yes.
The “democracy is in peril” crowd was actually talking about themselves
— Stefan Sebastian (@RStSebastian) November 12, 2022
So much for democracy, huh?
— Noel (@noelckelly) November 12, 2022
Democracy was so last week.
I disagree. I would be all for this, but only if Biden also fired Garland and made Kamala the Attorney General. I think she'd do a fantastic job. https://t.co/tNYQ51eAaA

We found someone who likes the plan. We knew there’d be one!
